Understanding Engine Sludge
No engine, no matter how sophisticated or technologically advanced is immune to the damaging effects of engine sludge.
Typically engine sludge is a thick dark substance that builds up and can eventually obstruct oil passages, adversely affecting the performance of critical engine parts.
Although engine sludge cannot be detected by simply draining the oil, there are some basic signs that sludge could be accumulating. Common reported consumer symptoms include: banging or other metallic noise in the engine, a build-up of contamination under the filler cap, the engine not warming correctly then overheating or erratic oil pressure. All these can ultimately lead to engine breakdown.
